The Lufthansa Group will therefore continue to equip its short and medium-haul aircraft with broadband Internet on three of its airlines in 2024. The plan is to fully equip all aircraft in the Airbus A220/320 family (A220, A319, A320ceo, A320neo, A321ceo, A321neo) operated by Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines and now also SWISS, in total more than 150 aircraft.

Star Alliance

The Lufthansa Group airlines are members of the Star Alliance group, the world’s leading airline alliance. The Star Alliance network was founded in 1997 as the first truly global airline alliance with a route network extending all around the world, an award programme, and seamless services for international travellers. Its leading position in the aviation industry has been recognised by numerous awards, including the Air Transport World Market Leadership Award and the award for the Best Airline Alliance from Business Traveller Magazine and Skytrax.

The Star Alliance Network currently offers a daily total of more than 19,000 flights to over 1,250 airports in 195 countries worldwide.

Sustainability: Fleet Modernization

The Lufthansa Group will receive more than 280 new aircraft by 2030. This means that a new, state-of-the-art aircraft will be added to the fleet every ten days on average.

This is another major step towards achieving our goal of a CO2 -neutral balance sheet by 2050.
But why are new airplanes good news for climate protection? Compared to the previous generation of aircraft, some of which still fly regularly and have taken travelers all over the world in recent years, the new models consume significantly less fuel. Expressed in figures, the new aircraft consume up to 30 percent less fuel. This means that by 2030, a completely renewed fleet will emit around 30 percent less CO2 than before.
